07/19/2022 Myanmar (International Christian Concern) – Thousands of Christians have been forced to flee from the village of Mohla in the Sagaing region of Myanmar due to air strikes and shelling by the Burmese military.

The military, which has been in control of the country ever since the February 2021 coup, has often targeted religious minorities as it attempts to suppress pro-democracy civilian forces.

According to media reports, when the residents of Mohla learned about the impending military raid on July 17, they fled into the nearby jungle. The elderly and children were loaded onto carts to get them to safety.

Reports from villagers hiding nearby said that three helicopters flew over the village on July 18 and conducted the airstrikes. According to one villager, “we had to hide in the trees as we heard the junta’s air strikes.”

The number of casualties and damage to civilian homes in the majority-Christian village is still unknown.

Please join ICC in praying for Christians and other religious minorities who are suffering under the oppressive military regime in Myanmar.
