ICC Note:

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Donald trump at the White House, Christians and Sikhs protested outside to raise awareness of India’s increasing violations of religion and human rights. Modi promised a more liberal society when he was elected in 2014, including promoting the freedom of religion, however, Christians continue to suffer physical, legal, and social persecution. Hindus maintain favored status in society and there is little protection for Christians who are attacked for their faith by radical Hindus. Police are hesitant to help Christians and often participate in persecution. Modi’s administration has reportedly made the lives of Christians, Sikhs and other religious minorities more difficult. Sikhs for Justice director Jatinder Grewall told Christian Broadcasting Network that they want to shed some light on the human rights violations happening in India.

For Pastor Rob Rotola, Modi lied when he assured Christians and religious minorities in 2014 that he would promote freedom of religion. The pastor, who joined the protest, said only the Hindus have a favorable status in the country.
