11/21/2024 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – Fulani militants crept into the Nigerian village in the late hours of the night. When they finished their attack, there were hundreds dead and many mortally wounded.

Naomi was one of those gravely injured. Her village was attacked in June 2023, and she endured gunshots, cuts from machetes, and tragically had been set ablaze in her hut. She suffered burns over most of her body. We met her last September and provided her medical care. Her story deeply touched our hearts. However, we learned of her tragic passing just before Christmas — she succumbed to the wounds she endured from the attack.

We are inspired and motivated to empower the surviving widows, who shared stories like Naomi’s, filled with unspeakable horror and unwavering strength and grace.

During the last 20 years in Nigeria, armed Islamic Fulani militants have probably killed upward of 100,000 Christians. And yet, the government never takes meaningful action against the attackers.

We couldn’t provide Naomi with a farm before her passing, yet we plan to provide widows like her with a small plot of land, seeds, and teach them how to efficiently plant, harvest, and sell their produce.

Through ICC’s farm projects, we help vulnerable widows and Christian communities regain their livelihoods by providing farming equipment, seed, poultry, and cattle. For more than five years, we’ve worked with farmers in Nigeria, Iraq, India, and beyond set up self-sustaining farms.

Behnam is a Christian whose farm was destroyed by ISIS almost 10 years ago. Through your support, we set him up with a thriving chicken farm.

“You saved me,” he said. “I was on the verge of giving up on farming when you crossed my path three years ago.”
