Pastor Killed, Church Destroyed During Myanmar Earthquake Recovery
4/14/2025 Myanmar (International Christian Concern) — The Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) has reported that the Tatmadaw military junta is continuing airstrikes in Chin State despite ceasefire claims from the junta to facilitate and allow for aid transport in the wake of the massive earthquake on March 28.
CHRO reported that on April 9, six civilians, including an 8-month-old baby and an Assembly of God pastor, were among those killed in Mindat Township in Chin state.
“These attacks — launched in the immediate aftermath of a devastating earthquake — represent a cruel and calculated attempt by a desperate regime to reassert control by terrorizing an already devastated population,” CHRO said in a press release.
The Assembly of God church building was also destroyed in the strikes, which are continuing despite more than 3,600 people dead from the earthquake and ongoing recovery efforts.
Both the junta and the forces they are fighting have accused each other of continuing these military actions since the earthquake, despite various declared ceasefires.
