Turkey’s Fires: Arson or Negligence?
07/31/2019 Turkey (International Christian Concern) – An investigation into the cause of multiple fires that recently threatened Christian villages in Turkey is ongoing. Initial reports indicated that six Christian villages were threatened, but updated reports indicate that the total number of villages who suffered are eight.
Many Christians have expressed fears that these fires are a scare tactic meant to further intimidate their presence in the region. Following the conclusion of these fires, there have been an increased conversation expressing concern that even if these fires were not arson, they are a result of extreme negligence. Local authorities were not equipped to properly fight the fires.
These fires occurred in Southern Turkey, the tensest region in the country. The government says it is at war with PKK terrorists in this area. Christians find themselves caught in the middle. Many of their ancestors suffered genocide at the hands of leadership in Istanbul. As a result, trust is lacking and many believe that they are victims of an ongoing strategy which would fully eliminate their presence in their homeland.
