Christian family including old woman severely attacked in Kerala

8/15/07 India (SVM News) – An unidentified mob around 20 people came by cars at night and attacked three members of a Christian prayer family in Sasthamkottah in Kollam Distrct on August 11.

75-year-old Rahel, her son 54-year-old Joykutty and 47-year-old Annamma, the wife of Joykutty of Padinjarumuri Keezhalloor House at Sooranadu North were severely beaten and seriously injured by the assailants on Saturday around 9 pm.

The attackers snatched off a van from the house too.

By the attack, Joykutty’s bridge of the nose was destroyed and the blood was flown with a hissing sound. Seeing this Annamma cried aloud and tried to rescue her husband. And she was also beaten by the attackers and her right hand was broken.

“The old woman Rahel was beaten and thrown out into a corner.” George Mathew, one of the local residents told to the Salem Voice Ministries (SVM) News Service.

Neighbors and local people quickly reached when they heard the uproars of the family. But the attackers threatened them with a long sword and escaped with the van which they snatched off.

Paul Ciniraj, president of the Christian Ministers of the Churches of India (CMCI) condemned the attack towards Joykutty’s family. He asked the government to find out whose dark hands are behind this Christian persecution.
