Governor El-Rufai’s Lockdowns Kill Christians.

On Christmas Eve 2016, Fulani militants attacked the village of Goska in Kaduna state. They burned eighty houses, wounded dozens, and killed 14 villagers (including women and children). Five days prior, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai imposed a strict 24-hour curfew on Jema’a Local Government Area where Goska is located.

The attack garnered international condemnation. But that didn’t stop El-Rufai from imposing at least six more lockdowns since the 2016 attacks.

With a lack of security during the lockdowns, Christian villagers are sitting targets for radical terrorist groups to attack and cause mass destruction.

El-Rufai’s continued lockdowns in the face of hundreds of deaths are likely a violation of international human rights law.

Time for Action

We are raising our voices to urge Secretary of State Antony Blinken to implement sanctions targeting Nasir El-Rufai.
