06/01/2022 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – Over 30 people were killed, and several others were injured in a stampede in Port Harcourt, a city in southeast Nigeria, on May 28. The event occurred at a polo club near Kings Assembly Church, which was holding a gift donation drive.

Olufemi Ayodele, a spokesman for the Nigerian Civil Defense Corps, described the stampede. “During the process of distributing the gift items, there was a stampede due to overcrowding,” he said. “Casualties were children mostly.”

The stampede occurred right before the gift drive began. According to a report from Grace Woyengikuro Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state police, the crowd attempted to enter even though the gate had been closed, which resulted in the deaths of many members. Iringe-Koko also reported that thirty-one people died, and seven others were hospitalized for their injuries obtained during the stampede.

Please pray for the families of those who died and those injured in the stampede.
