12/14/2021 Indonesia (International Christian Concern) – The Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police in Indonesia arrested a fugitive terrorist suspect in South Sulawesi who was allegedly involved in the Makassar Cathedral bombing last March.

The Head of Operation Assistance (Banops) of Densus 88, Kombes Pol Aswin Siregar, confirmed the information and said the arrest was made last week.

While the identity of the arrested fugitive was not revealed, Aswin said that he was already on the People’s Wanted List (DPO). This person, said Aswin, belongs to the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) terrorist organization.

The suicide bombing carried out by a JAD-linked couple at the Makassar Cathedral Church occurred on March 28, 2021. More than 20 were injured during the Palm Sunday attack, though no one died except the two terrorists. After that incident, Densus 88 had at least arrested 99 suspected terrorists.

Radicalism has been on the rise in Indonesia especially given the rise of the Islamic State. Many returned Indonesian IS fighters continue to indoctrinate and recruit Muslims in their Muslim-majority homeland.
