Hearing Held for Chinese Preacher and Wife Accused of Illegal Religious Activities

08/18/2021 China (International Christian Concern) – On August 13, Siming District Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau in Xiamen held a public hearing for the case against Xunsiding Church Preacher Yang Xibo and his wife Wang Xiaofei.

The couple received a notice of administrative punishment from the Siming District Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau on July 29 for organizing an illegal religious gathering. They were slapped with a hefty fine totaling more than USD 30,000. They applied for a hearing to be held and the authorities granted their request.

According to China Aid, during the hearing, which lasted two and a half hours, as their lawyer could not attend due to the pandemic, Preacher Yang and his wife had to defend themselves. After the hearing, Pastor Yang said, “The hearing went well, but the Religious Affairs Bureau does not intend to change anything.”

Members of the house church waited for Pastor Yang and his wife outside the Religious Affairs Bureau when the hearing was in session. After the hearing, Wang shared on social media that regardless of the result—God won.
