08/10/2021 Iran (International Christian Concern) –  Just 80 days into his nine-month detention, Iranian Christian convert Reza Zaeemi was released from prison. However, his freedom is restricted as he is required to wear a tracking ankle monitor for the remainder of his sentence and cannot leave the country for two years after its completion.

Zaeemi’s requirement to wear the ankle bracelet appears to be an increasing trend for Iranian Christians. Another Christian, Farhad Mohebbi, sentenced to 10 months was released a month into his sentence on the condition of wearing the tracker. Both Zaeemi and Mohebbi were charged with “propaganda against the state”, another increasingly common trend for accusations against Christians.

Zaeemi was arrested on November 27, 2020 and eventually sentenced in January. An appeals court reduced his original prison sentence by half in April, and he submitted himself to begin his imprisonment on June 2.
