08/07/2021 Iraq (International Christian Concern) –  Seven years ago at the beginning of August, the Islamic State (ISIS) began its conquest and genocide starting in northern Iraq. Since the defeat of ISIS, Iraq has begun its restoration and development progress to recover the infrastructure. Though many Christians and civilians remain emotionally burdened by the events.

An ISIS survivor and native Christian to Mosul was recently crowned Miss Iraq 2021. Maria Frhad Salem and her family were forced to flee Mosul in 2014 and relocated to Erbil as they escaped persecution from ISIS terrorists. The 20-year-old winner is a point of hope as the country recovers, studying Computer Engineering and seeking to contribute to the restoration process herself.
