07/15/2021 Egypt (International Christian Concern) – Following solitary imprisonment for nearly 20 months, Ramy Kamel had his detention extended yet again for 45 days. Kamel, originally arrested on November 23rd, 2019, has been held in arbitrary solitary confinement, despite calls for his release by the UN, USCIRF, and many international organizations.
Once hopeful for his latest court hearing that he may be released, Kamel now faces an unknown amount of time in prison as prosecutors continue filing extensions for his detention. He faces several charges relating to his work as a human rights advocate and for his moderate commentary on the persecution and discrimination against Christians in Egypt.
International Christian Concern continues to join the international voices calling on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to grant Kamel’s immediate release.
