Eleven People Rescued from Boko Haram Captivity
03/29/2021 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – The Nigerian Tribune reported that the Nigerian army killed at least 48 Boko Haram Terrorists and saved eleven of their captives during a military operation in Borno State, Northeastern Nigeria.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Mohammed Yerima, issued a statement on Saturday detailing the events:
“The gallant troops laid an ambush, engaged and overwhelmed the criminals with aggressive firepower, neutralizing 9 terrorists in the process while several others escaped with fatal gunshot wounds. The troops also recovered 7 AK 47 Rifles and freed 3 kidnapped victims,” he said,
“Similarly, in another encounter, troops of 28 Task Force Brigade located in Askira equally laid a successful ambush along Askira – Chibok Main Supply Route (MSR) and neutralized 39 terrorists.” An additional eight kidnap victims were said to be rescued in this encounter.
For over a decade, Boko Haram has killed and displaced thousands of Christians in an attempt to discard western influence and impose strict Islamic Sharia law. The Christian charity Open Doors summarizes the terror group in this way: “In short, they view themselves as the ultimate expression of Islam, carrying out the true preaching and mission of the Muslim faith, which in their extremist view means fighting a holy war. Even the name ‘Boko Haram’ roughly means ‘Western education is forbidden.’ They believe anything outside of their radical interpretation of Islam is meant to be fought against and is not to be accepted. To do this, their ultimate aim is to set up an Islamic state in northern Nigeria.”
Please join us in praying for our brothers and sisters in Nigeria, for the Lord to strengthen the Nigerian church and heal His persecuted children of their trauma. Please also pray for the world to recognize the scale of the suffering that believers are having to endure in Nigeria, as well as for the souls of those who persecute the church, that all will repent and find salvation in Christ.
