02/14/2021 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – A father and son were murdered in their home on Saturday, February 13th after resisting a kidnapping attempt by bandits. According to Samuel Aruwan, Igabi local governments commissioner for internal security and home affairs, perpetrators shot sporadically through the victim’s residence and forcefully gained entry: “upon resisting the bandits, they were both shot dead. Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed sadness over the attacks and consoled the family of the slain father and son, while offering prayers for the repose of their souls.”
The attack is just one of the hundreds of atrocities terrorist groups have inflicted upon Kaduna State. Just last Saturday, At least 19 people were killed when two villages were raided in the northwestern part of Kaduna. Fulani militants and Boko Haram are the leading culprits in these attacks that have killed thousands and caused panic among the. Christian populations in Nigeria. While the government denies that there is any religious element to the killings taking place throughout the country, it is quite clear that hatred of Christianity plays a role in attacks throughout the Middle Belt. The destruction of churches and kidnapping and killing of pastors in Kaduna State shows just how much hatred there is toward Christ.
Despite his condolences, Governor el-Rufai has allowed these kinds of killings to continue in his state unabated. He has been implicated as complicit in some of the attacks and in favoring his fellow Fulani and Muslims over Christians. The use of government mandated lockdowns in Christian villages has even been linked to attacks. Unless Governor el-Rufai starts to protect all of his citizens and hold those who conduct these attacks accountable, his state will never have peace.
