(International Christian Concern) – The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) invaded the Nineveh Plains in 2014, displacing most Christians living there. Their invasion, coupled with the battle to retake the Nineveh Plains, left the region devastated. ISIS came to steal, kill, and destroy Christian lives, more so when their defeat was imminent.
Terrorists targeted critical infrastructure needed for survival, making every effort to return Christians to the Nineveh Plains impossible. Clean water infrastructure needed to be restored first for life to return to rebuilding Christian cities.
In one community, a group of 10 Christian families requested International Christian Concern’s help to build an independent well. Independent wells are critical sources of clean and stable water flow and give these families greater confidence to live in their homeland and return from displacement.
It is like the water that comes from the rock. The landscape where Psalm 78:15-17 says God “split the rocks in the wilderness and gave the Israelites water as abundant as the seas; He brought them streams out of a rocky crag and made water flow down like rivers.”
