01/08/2020 China (International Christian Concern) – Following the nine year sentencing of Pastor Wang Yi, his church, Early Rain Covenant Church, has vowed to continue fighting despite his imprisonment and the escalation of persecution against Christians in China.
In an open letter, ERCC began saying, “Do you government officials not know that this is a sin against God? Do you not know that this is an abuse of your authority? Even so, we do not hate you. On the contrary, our merciful and righteous God wants us to love you and to pray for you”.
They continued on in their letter asking for the universal church to pray for Pastor Wang Yi and Pastor Qin Defu who was also sentenced to four years in prison. Citing scripture, the church proclaimed love and God while also calling for truth and justice for China’s Christians.
In addition to his jail time, Pastor Wang Yi also had $7,200 of personal assets confiscated and lost his political rights for three years. Prior to his arrest, he wrote a letter saying that he was not interested in “changing any political or legal institutions in China” because “the goal of disobedience is not to change the world but to testify about another world.” Bob Fu, President of China Aid, also told Christian Post that Wang’s sentence is the harshest of any house church leader in China.
ERCC concluded their letter praising God and asking that everything would be to His glory and might. Though Wang’s imprisonment has caused serious concern for the safety of Christians in China, many are still praising God and trusting His power.
