Head of Cattle Breeders Association Gives Ultimatum to Governors
11/08/2019 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – The president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, an umbrella organization for Fulani Cattle rearers in Nigeria, reportedly told governors throughout Nigeria that if they want “to enjoy peace in [their] state, [they] don’t need any long meeting, just create a particular area for the Fulani and equip them with modern amenities.” This statement is extremely suspect as both a threat of future violence and as evidence of control over past violence. No person has the right to tell their government that if there is to be peace, they must be bought off.
The government must react strongly to this threat. They must hold the president of Kautal Hore responsible for his words. If they do not, it again shows that they do not care about the crisis taking place in the Middle Belt. This would be just another instance of impunity for those who are not following the law. It would also be another sign that there might be complicity by the Nigerian government in the attacks.
It is a very complex and diverse issue that has raged through the Middle Belt. It involves socio-economic strife, historical tensions, religious tensions, and land ownership problems. Despite these difficulties, the Nigerian government has proven exceptionally inept in their dealings with this specific issue. They have put all of their limited efforts on quelling the Boko Haram insurgency in the North and turned a complete blind eye to the militant crisis throughout the Middle Belt. Please pray for the safety of our Brothers and Sisters through Nigeria who are facing attacks and hatred.
