10/31/2019 Washington D.C. (International Christian Concern) – In 2014, ISIS militants attacked many communities throughout the Nineveh Plains, displacing countless Christians from their homes. During its occupation, ISIS destroyed much of the infrastructure in place within the region. Following ISIS’s defeat, Christian families are slowly returning to their former homes, most of which still lack basic amenities.
In Qeraqosh, a predominantly Christian city, approximately 5,000 families have returned to their homes, but now suffer from a lack of reliable, clean water. In response, ICC obtained permission from the local government to construct a well near a Qeraqosh school. Although workers were faced with challenges like the initial collapse of the well and heavy rainfall, the pump and piping were completed shortly after Easter. The well now serves approximately 450 students as well as several nearby homes surrounding the school.
