(International Christian Concern)This year, we re-shaped our annual Bridge conference into the AWAKEN conference. On July 20, we hosted the first of several 2019 AWAKEN conferences.

Nowhere else in the world do you see such complete devotion to the Lord, at such a high cost, as those places where Christians live under persecution. They show us what we can be as believers and call us to a deeper walk.

We want the free Church to experience what we who work with the persecuted have experienced. We will still be informing people of the “where” and the “how” of persecution, but we really want to inspire people to a deeper calling. This is the great effect of the persecuted on the Western Church.

At our recent conference, one attendee said afterwards: “My experience [today] has been beyond words… The entire afternoon has just been incredible. I’ve been inspired and moved. I’ve been convicted… I’m aware of the persecuted Church, but I just feel a greater awakening, having attended this today, I didn’t realize that I have a family of war heroes,” she finished, tearing up.

Our AWAKEN conference is now a four-hour event featuring three to four speakers, including myself and our partners from around the world.

At the first conference, our partner speakers gave the inside story on what’s happening in Iran and North Korea. Most of the audience was only familiar with what the newspapers were saying about these countries. After they heard the inside story and, most importantly, what God is doing in these countries, they were blown away. God’s story is always that way. The world doesn’t know Him, but He’s always secretly at work, redeeming and bringing the dead to life. His work in these countries is incredible.

I spoke about my newest book, The Last Words of the Martyrs, at the AWAKEN conference. My focus was on how the persecuted and the martyrs are calling us to a different kind of faith.

We’re looking forward to rolling out additional surprises at future AWAKEN conferences, with the purpose of putting the Western Church in closer contact to our persecuted brothers and sisters, so that we can grow in Christ together!
