09/06/2019 Uganda (International Christian Concern) – Lezia Nakayiza, a 54-year-old mother of seven, has had a very hard year. She lost her husband last September and was left to care for her children alone. Then this year, she started attending church, after coming to Christ in February. She had been attending the church for nearly six months in secret, when her youngest son told her in-law family that he loved the choir. Not understanding that it was meant to be kept a secret, her son unknowingly made Lezia a target for her extremist family.
On the night of June 20th, her family with some friends came to her house. They carried weapons and tools to beat her because she was an “infidel”. After having been warned about the impending attack however, Lezia and her children were able to escape out the back of the house without receiving any injuries. They fled several hours by foot to a church where they found safety with the pastor.
Since that time, they have been hiding in an undisclosed location and Lezia is trying to provide for her family, five of whom are still teenagers or younger. She has been washing clothes for other locals, but this does not provide enough money for her to change her circumstances. Without any support from family, life has become very hard for her.
There are many Muslim background believers in Uganda who are just like Lezia. Please continue to pray for the safety of our brothers and sisters in Christ who suffer for their desire to worship God. Also please pray for the hearts of those who seek to do harm to God’s children.
