06/27/2019 China (International Christian Concern) – The State Department recently released this year’s International Religious Freedom report for China. In the report, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo rebuked the country’s treatment of religious minorities and called for implementation of new policies to handle this issue.
Following the release of the report, the Ambassador at large for International Religious Freedom, Sam Brownback, commented “they’ve increased their repression of Christians, shutting down churches and arresting adherents for their peaceful religious practices. And to this we say to China: Do not be mistaken, you will not win your war on faith. This will have consequences on your standing at home and around the world.”
The United States has classified China as a Country of Particular Concern since 1999 due to their treatment of religious minorities. Government Officials have continued to blast China for their treatment, but no progress has occurred. Christians in China continue to suffer severe persecution.
