05/21/2019 Sudan (International Christian Concern) – The Transitional Military Council (TMC) of Sudan stated on 7 May that Sharia Law would still guide their policies and policy making. This is terrible news for the Christian population of Sudan who was hoping for more freedom after the fall of Omar al-Bashir.

The 30-year regime of Bashir had established Sharia as the sole basis for policy in 2011 after South Sudan gained its independence. Since that time, churches have been closed and targeted for destruction, pastors have been harassed and arrested, and the general Christian population has suffered. Most of the church has had to go underground if they wanted to worship freely.

Now with the TMC using this same policy making basis, Christians fear that they will only continue to suffer at the hands of the repressive government. Without solid international intervention, Sudanese Christians will have to continue living underground, fighting for their rights to worship Christ freely. Please pray that this policy and the government in Sudan will change.
