Christian Teen in Pakistan Raped and Forcefully Converted to Islam
05/18/2019 Pakistan (International Christian Concern) – Neha Pervaiz, a 15-year-old Christian teen from Karachi, Pakistan, was reportedly raped and forcefully converted to Islam last month. According to UCA News, Pervaiz was also forcefully married to a 45-year-old Muslim man.
“I was taken by my aunt, a Muslim convert, to her house on April 28 to help her look after her sick son,” Pervaiz told UCA News. “But there I was asked to marry a Muslim man named Imran. When I refused, they beat me up and threatened to kill my minor brother who was with me.”
After this, Pervaiz reports that she was taken into another room and raped by Imran. “They then pressurized me to convert to Islam and marry Imran,” Pervaiz reported to UCA News.
The next day, on April 29, Pervaiz was forced to convert to Islam and was renamed Fatima. On April 30, Pervaiz was taken to court where she was illegally married to Imran.
On May 5, Pervaiz was able to escape Imran with the help of Imran’s daughter. She returned to her parents’ home in Karachi who were unaware of their daughter’s struggles.
According to a study done by the Movement for Solidarity and Peace Pakistan, an estimated 1,000 Christian and Hindu women are abducted and forced to convert to Islam every year in Pakistan. Rape is often used as a weapon to entrap victims who fear the shame and stigma often associated with being a rape victim in Pakistan.
