Attack in Burkina Faso Kills Pastor and Five Church Members
05/01/2019 Burkina Faso (International Christian Concern) – A pastor and 5 of his church members were killed on Sunday in Burkina Faso as they were leaving their church. A group of gunmen drove up on motorbikes and started shooting at the churchgoers as they left the building after service as reported by the Christian Post.
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Burkina Faso has seen an uptick in terrorist activity. Over the past two years, they have had several terror attacks that have targeted mainly westerners and hotels. This attack marks the first church specifically targeted in Burkina Faso.
Also on Monday, the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, accepted oaths of allegiance from leaders of IS affiliates in Burkina Faso and neighboring Mali. These oaths mean that the terror groups in Burkina Faso and Mali will now take their orders from ISIS, who has heavily targeted Christians in the Middle East. This could mean that Christians will be targeted more often in both countries.
