04/25/2019 Africa (International Christian Concern) – Projections by the Pew Research Center shows that Africa currently has the largest population of Christians in the world. They state that over the next 50 years, this is likely to become even more true.

Africa currently has three countries in the top ten Christian populations by country. These are Nigeria at number six, DRC at seven and Ethiopia at nine. By 2060, three more countries in Africa, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, are expected to join the list. The report shows the top ten countries with Muslim populations also.  One of the most interesting things the report points out is that Nigeria stands as the only country on both lists.

Africa is seeing large growth in Churches and Christian communities despite continued persecution. Of the three countries on the list currently, Nigeria ranks 6th and Ethiopia ranks 28th on Open Doors World Watch List. So even in countries with large Christian populations, persecution can still be rampant.
