02/21/2019 India (International Christian Concern) – In a recent press release, the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) in India claimed that Indian Christians endured 29 incidents of persecution in just the first 31 days of 2019. ADF went on to condemn the tacit acceptance of mob culture by India’s political leaders.
According to the ADF press release, “2019 began with 29 incidents [of persecution] in January [across] 13 states of India. All 29 incidents reported were mob attacks or threats and intimidation in nature.”
ADF further reports that none of the 29 incident have First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against the perpetrators of the attacks. “This shows [a] tacit understanding between the violent perpetrators and police who obviously enjoy the patronage of local political leaders or officials,” ADF explained.
Among the victims of these violent incidents were 26 women and 25 children who were left injured. According to ADF, these incidents have become so common that nobody has time to condemn them including political, civil society, and religious leaders.
“It is worrying to see these horrendous acts of mobocracy continuing,” Tehmina Arora, Director of ADF in India, said. “It is high time special laws are enacted to instill a sense of fear for law amongst those who involve themselves in mob violence.”
