Iran Observes 40th Anniversary of Founding
02/11/2019 Iran (International Christian Concern) – Today, Iran is marking the 40-year anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. Each anniversary, the regime organizes a nationwide rally where the country reaffirms their allegiance to the Islamic principles which founded Iran. Throughout the previous year, the authorities struggled to contain frequent, sporadic, and geographically-wide protests against the regime’s corruption and enforced moral value system.
Although Iran claims that it supports the religious freedom of Christians, the facts clearly demonstrate that it is one of the worst persecutors of the church. Iran rates as a Tier 1 Country of Particular Concern by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, and number 9 on Open Doors persecution watch list.
Christianity is viewed as a national security threat by the Islamic Republic of Iran. Many Muslims, frustrated with the government’s harsh attempts to govern both society and souls, are curious about Christianity and have come to know the Gospel message. The regime has cracked down hard against Christians, imprisoning them for years on vague charges and subjecting them to numerous types of degrading and inhumane treatment.
