11/04/2018 Iran (International Christian Concern) – This past year, Iran has been defined by a deteriorating social, economic, and political situation. Believers, many of whom come from a Muslim background, are increasingly left in a desperate position as this environment worsens. For this reason, Iranian believers have asked for increased prayer.
Many Iranian Christians face intense persecution that includes social ostracization, harassment by Intelligence services, imprisonment, interrogation, exile, etc. While it is not known exactly how many believers are currently imprisoned for their faith, evidence shows that their treatment while imprisoned leaves deep trauma which affects them for years.
According to the Open Doors’ World Watch List, Iran is the 10th most dangerous country for Christians. As an Islamic regime, the government is pressured to maintain the status quo and thus works to restrict the freedom of religious minorities. Despite this persecution, the church continues to grow in Iran.
