Fulani Militants Kill Another 17 Christians in Benue State, Nigeria
ICC Note: Fulani have killed at least another 17 Christians in Benue State. They attacked the village of Olosu on March 5. This attack adds to the devastation that has taken place over the past several months in Benue and increases the total Christians killed in Benue to more than 100.
03/08/2018 Nigeria (Pulse Nigeria) – According to Channels TV, the Chairman of the Local Government, Ogwuche Olofu, confirmed the attack.
Olofu said the herdsmen attacked the village on Monday, March 5, 2018, after accusing the youths in the community of attacking them.
The LG chairman, who put the death figure at 17, said many people were also missing after the attack – a possible kidnap situation.
The police, however, are yet to confirm the number of people killed.
The attack comes hours after the Presidency announced that President Muhammadu Buhari would visit Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers states over the herdsmen crisis in the states.
On January 11, the Benue government held a mass burial for 71 victims of the herdsmen crisis. The number has since risen to over 100 as the attacks, which began in December 31, continued to occur.
