12/20/2017 Washington, DC (International Christian Concern) –  Many cases of persecution against Christians in India have been reported in the past year as the level of intolerance continues to increase steadily. Pastors, evangelists, and ministry leaders are heavily targeted by Hindu radicals because they are considered a threat to their ideals, religion, and culture. This was the case for Pastor Sebas N., a recent victim who was brutally attacked by a group of Hindu radicals as he was returning home from a church meeting in Mahabubabad District, Telangana.

Nine men assaulted Pastor Sebas with wooden sticks and beat him until he lost consciousness, causing severe injuries to his head. Pastor Sebas was found bleeding and lying on the floor around 11:00 p.m. by a bus driver who immediately called emergency services and notified the police. The pastor was rushed to the hospital for intensive care, but had to be transferred because the local hospital did not have the necessary resources to treat him. Unfortunately, the pastor and his family could not afford all of the medical expenses and had to borrow money to cover some of the costs of his physical therapy and other treatments.

Pastor Sebas serves a church in a rural area and they were devastated by the atrocity. However, thanks to the support of generous donors, ICC was able to assist Pastor Sebas with his medical expenses and provide some relief for the church. This assistance not only covered the victim’s medical expenses, but also some of the repairs that the church needed for the congregation’s safety.

Everyone in the church was grateful for the assistance and support. One church member noted, “We are small congregation in [a] remote area. We are glad that we are remembered; that gives us the sense that we belong to [the] Body of Christ. Thank you so much for your hand of help and prayers for us. Please do pray for us that God will build his Church even in these remote areas of hard district for the Gospel.”

Although we were able to assist Pastor Sebas and his church, there is still a long way to go to improve the living conditions of Christians in India. Therefore, please remember to pray for the recovery of Pastor Sebas who suffers from paralysis in one side of his face, as well as hearing and vision impairments as a result of the attack. Pray for the safety of both the pastor and church members who are committed to sharing the Gospel. Please pray also for Christians in India who are constantly and brutally persecuted because of their faith. Ask God that He would continue to provide a way for His people and that He would protect them.
