ICC Note:

The father of Sharoon Masih, a 17-year-old Christian student that was murdered by a Muslim classmate in August, claims that police are ignoring the anti-Christian bullying taking place at Sharoon’s school. Following the murder, police claim they interviewed other Christian students at MC Model Boys Government School, but found no reports of anti-Christian bullying. Sharoon’s father disputes this report by the police, claiming other Christians students are afraid to come forward for fear of worst treatment. Discrimination against Christians in Pakistan is widespread and intense. This discrimination has relegated Pakistani Christians to the lowest rungs of Pakistan’s society and often leads to outbreaks of anti-Christian violence.

11/07/2017 Pakistan (Christians in Pakistan) – A report by the Burewala Police Constabulary, who have been recommending that the demise of Christian kid Sharoon Masih was not a zenith of the harassing he got while attending MC Model Boys Government School Burewala in Punjab, states Masih’s death was merely an individual clash with one kid. This report has harmed individuals from Masih’s family.

The grieving father of Sharoon Masih has requested that BPCA set the record straight after several publications seem to have joined forces with detractors in attempting to thwart justice for Sharoon who was only 17 when he was killed.

Mr. Masih, talking with the BPCA, stated, “We are extremely fearful of the threat to the lives of our children in the same manner as many other Christian families. However most of them [refuse] to speak out not because they do not realize the problem, [but] because they fear for their own families and children that go to that school.”

“Speaking up about bullying and harassment in the schools in Pakistan brings about absolutely no change. Our government presents no help and in fact obstructs it by building teaching material that target minorities.”

“My younger children are frightened and are bullied in their schools. Since their brother died, they have all expressed that they do not want to go to school and I have encouraged all of those attending MC Model Boys School to an alternative school.”

“There were never many Christian students at MC Model Boys School. So few that in Sharoon’s classroom, [that] he was the only Christian.”

“All the Christian students in the school are bullied. If any spoke to any media and said they are not being bullied it will be because of the fear they are under.”
