Attacks on Christians in India are hitting record levels as radical Hindu nationalists declare their intentions to make India a Hindu nation. Chanting slogans like “Make India Christian-free by 2021”, radicals have been whipped up into a intolerant frenzy by radical leaders. Unfortunately, the government, who is charged with protecting the rights of all citizens regardless of religious identity, has done little to confront these groups. With an atmosphere of impunity ruling the day, it is not surprising that attacks on Christians and other religious minorities is rising to unprecedented levels. 

08/12/2017 India (Christians in Pakistan) – Indian Christians were harassed, threatened or attacked for their faith in 410 reported incidents (248 in the first quarter) – almost as many as the total for the whole of 2016 (441). This is according to figures compiled by partners of Open Doors, the global charity the worldwide philanthropy which screens the treatment of Christians worldwide to deliver a yearly World Watch List of the 50 most troublesome nations for them to live in. A year ago, interestingly, India entered the List at no. 15; it looks set to ascend higher in 2018 if exhibit patterns proceed.

In January, April, May and June the number of incidents this year were more than twofold that of 2016.

In February and March the number is almost twofold that of 2016.

There were two killings in the principal half of 2017.

Eighty-four episodes were of rough attack (by Hindu radicals in 99% of cases): most beatings were serious.

In 32 of them, Christians would have killed if auspicious restorative guide had not been given.
