Al-Shabaab conducted an attack Wednesday night killing 3 and injuring 7 in their continued battle for control of Somalia. This attack took place on a checkpoint just outside the capital of Mogadishu. According to witnesses, a truck filled with explosives moved up to the checkpoint, detonated, and took the lives of the three men. Al-Shabaab’s mission is to drive out the African Union peacekeepers, topple Somalia’s government and establish a caliphate with its strict version of Islam on the Horn of Africa.
