Four churches in Suffolk County New York were defaced with satanic graffiti on Friday, June 17, according to local police reports. The churches targeted were all predominantly African-American, although police are still investigating the incident and are treating it as a serious act of property vandalism and a religious hate crime. No suspects have yet been identified. The painted messages were removed before Sunday morning services took place.
06/21/2017 United States (New York Post) – Vandals spray-painted satanic graffiti on four Long Island churches over the weekend, police said Sunday.
The disturbing scrawls — which included the words “hail Satan” as well as pentagrams — appeared on the houses of worship in North Amityville, Suffolk County, sometime between Friday night and Saturday, according to authorities.
“They must have a vendetta,” said Walter Willie, the 62-year-old pastor of the defaced Prayer Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. “To attack a place of healing, a place that helps people in time of great need — whoever did this has hurt in their heart.”
Congregants found similar drawings at the Amityville Full Gospel Tabernacle, Zion Gospel Church and Shaw Temple AME Zion Church, according to police. All of the churches are within a mile of each other.
