ICC Note: Both Christians and certain Muslim groups are tired of the religious impositions and violence they face every day by Islamic radicals. Therefore, a group of Shiite Muslims decided to visit the Igbo Christians in Bauchi to foster unity as neighbors and promote peace. Even though Christians are constantly persecuted in Nigeria by several groups, including the government, some of their Muslim neighbors do want to live in peace.
02/15/2017, Nigeria (Naij) – Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as Shiites visited the Ndigbo communities in Bauchi, Bauchi state.
The group said the visit was to foster unity and peace in the among the Igbo Christians of Bauchi and the Shiite Muslims who have been untruly termed as violent.
The Islamic religious group said their mission was to correct the impression that they are intolerant to other groups and tribes in the state, Nigeria Bulletin reports.
Recall that their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife were arrested after an altercation with the Nigeria army in 2015. Despite court rulings favouring their release, Zakzaky and his wife are yet to be released by the authority.
