ICC Note: Al- Shabaab terrorists were planting explosive devices in Mandera town and engaged in a shootout with the responding officers, which resulted in the death of a police reservist. Mandera town has become a common ground for Al-Shabaab to carry out many attacks against Christians. One of their last attacks of 2016, involved the killing of 12 Christians in an overnight attack at a hotel in Mandera town. Consequently, the authorities are establishing curfews and have intensified operations to stop or at least control terrorists in the region.
1/23/2016, Kenya(All Africa) – A Kenya police reservist was killed Monday morning when suspected Al-Shabaab militants hurled explosives at a bank and two eateries in Mandera town.
Shortly after the attack, police and Kenya Defence Forces soldiers secured the Equity Bank branch, whose walls were damaged and windows shattered.
