ICC Note: As Muslims were celebrating the Eid-El-Kabir, President Muhammadu Buhari encouraged Muslims to seek a peaceful relationship with their Christian neighbors. About 40% of the population in Nigeria are Christians and the majority are Muslims.  However, Christians continue to experience high levels of violence and discrimination by Islamic extremists like Boko Haram, despite Buhari’s intention to fight the terrorist group.

9/13/2016, Nigeria (All Africa) –President Muhammadu Buhari in his Sallah message urged Nigerian Muslim’s to continue to keep good relationship with their Christian brothers and sisters.

While Buhari saluted Nigerians for their steadfastness inspite of the economic crunch, he blamed the economic recession on the inability of past governments to plan and save for the rainy day.

Buhari said, “Fellow Compatriots, as you celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir, I salute your steadfastness in spite of the difficult economic times the country is going through.

“The lessons of the Eid are piety and sacrifice and, my dear brothers and sisters, you have exhibited these in equal measure.
