Giving hope to persecuted Christians since 1995

ICC Note: Following up on today’s earlier news post, it is now evident that lawyers defending Christians are not the only ones suffering through China’s trial week for arbitrary offenses; Christian leaders are direct victims as well. According to the CCP, Pastor Hu Shigen must be disciplined for “attempting to overthrow the Communist Party” by exercising the freedom of speech China’s own constitution grants. China is a premier example as to why a country’s judiciary system must be able to operate independently of a political party’s control, for otherwise the law will be enforced and reinterpreted only as it is useful to the political party’s needs. But the CCP’s outrageous intervention in the courts can do nothing to stop the work of the Holy Spirit that continues to use servants of God like Pastor Hu to bring the Chinese people to Christ.

8/3/2016 Tianjin, China (The Guardian) –

A prominent Christian church leader has become the latest to be jailed by Chinese courts during a week of activist trials and public confessions that have shocked international observers.

Hu Shigen, a leader of an underground church movement, was found guilty of subversion, sentenced to seven years and six months’ imprisonment and derived of political rights for five years.

Previously, Hu spent 16 years in prison for other political offences, including sharing leaflets about China’s 1989 crackdown on protesters in Tiananmen Square.

A Chinese court in Tianjin, 60 miles south-east of Beijing, is this week rolling out a string of court sentences against rights activists and lawyers that observers claim have almost zero credibility.
