As the Hindu nationalist BJP looks to gain a political victory in India’s Uttar Pradesh state, BJP MPs are once again inciting religious disharmony. In a statement made by BJP MP Yogi Adityanath, the MP claimed that Mother Teresa’s work in India was a part of a conspiracy to convert Hindus to Christianity and was the cause of separatist movements in India’s northeast. Similar claims against Mother Teresa have been made by Hindu nationalists over the years despite the fact that Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work in India. Unfortunately, inciting religious disharmony has been a go to tactic for the BJP as they seek more political power in India.

6/21/2016 India (The Indian Express) – In a controversial remark, BJP MP Yogi Adityanath has said Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa was part of a “conspiracy for Christianization of India”.

“Teresa was part of a conspiracy for Christianization of India. Incidents of Christianization had led to separatist movements in parts of North-East, including Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland,” the Gorakhpur MP said.

Addressing a Ram Katha program in UP on Saturday, he said, “You all are unaware of the situation in NE. You should visit there to see the real situation.”

In 2015, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had in a similar comment said Mother Teresa’s service to the poor was aimed at converting them to Christianity.
