ICC Note: Militant Islamist Fulani militias massacred more than 500 Christian farmers in Agatu, Benue State, Nigeria in late February and now the media are catching up to that reality. The following report from Christian Today details some of the tragic persecution events that have left thousands of people displaced. International Christian Concern (ICC) reported these findings in late February while Nigerian and secular media outlets estimated the initial numbers at around 120.

4/9/16 Benue, Nigeria (Christian Today) – At least 500 people are reported to have been murdered in new attacks by Fulani herders in more than 10 villages in northern Nigeria.

The villages in Agatu LGA remain under siege by the Muslim herders, according to Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW). The latest attacks came soon after security forces in Benue State drove them out of another five communities they had occupied.

Chief Elias Ekoyi Obekpa, local paramount ruler of the Idoma tribe in Benue State, disclosed the latest attacks.
