ICC Note:

Islamic militants are accused of hacking to death a Christian covert in the northern city of Kurigram in Bangladesh. Bangladesh, a Muslim majority country in South Asia, has struggled with radical elements perpetrating attacks on religious minorities and others opposed to their radical ideology. Recently, Bangladesh has considered dropping Islam as the country’s official religious due to radicalization and increasing attacks on the country’s religious minorities.

3/22/2016 Bangladesh (Daily Mail) – Islamic militants are believed to have hacked to death a Christian convert during a knife attack on a busy street in northern Bangladesh.

Hossain Ali was walking through Kurigram when at least two people jumped the 68-year-old victim. Eyewitnesses claim the men slashed Ali’s neck.

Police believe the victim was on his regular morning walk when the killers jumped out at him.

District Police Chief Tobarak Ullah said: ‘He died on the spot. The attackers exploded a Molotov cocktail to create panic and left the scene on a motorcycle.’

Ullah said Ali had converted to Christianity from Islam in 1999 but he was not sure whether the deadly attack was carried out by Islamists or if there was another motive.

‘He was not a pastor or reputed Christian. Also there were some disputes over his family properties,’ Ullah said.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the killing.
