A Christian cemetery in Chamudeshwari Nagar, India was found desecrated this weekend by unknown attackers. Several grave markers were broken or uprooted as a result of the attack. Christians, Christian places of worship, and other locations related to Christianity in India have been under increased assault by Hindu radicals since the start of 2016. Attacks on Christians and their places of worship have been reported from India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu to its northern state of Uttar Pradesh. With little police enforcement being shown, it is likely this trend will continue. 

2/10/2016 India (The Hindu) – A few graves at the CSI church cemetery in Chamundeshwari Nagar here were found vandalized by unidentified miscreants on Saturday night.

According to the community leaders, the attackers also broke and uprooted several grave markers. They allegedly entered the cemetery by jumping over the locked gate and compound.

Upon being informed about the act of vandalism, the police visited the cemetery and launched a preliminary investigation.

A senior officer said a few empty liquor bottles were found near the damaged graves. “We have gathered some clues and will soon arrest the miscreants,” a senior officer said.
