ICC Note: Eleven Chadian soldiers were killed in a firefight between African coalition forced and suspected Boko Haram militants. Seventeen Islamic radicals were killed in the battle while Boko Haram continues to push into the surrounding regions from their base of operations in northeastern Nigeria. Chadian president Idriss Deby stands firm on his belief Boko Haram can and will be defeated by the end of the year. Boko Haram is an Islamist extremist group who targets Christian communities and other religious minorities spreading terror through physical and psychological violence.
10/06/2015 N’Djamena, Chad (Reuters) – Suspected militants from Nigeria’s Boko Haram group killed 11 soldiers in an attack over the border in Chad early on Tuesday, a Chadian military source said.
Seventeen attackers also died in the clash in an area that has seen a series of raids by the fighters, increasingly moving out of their heartlands to strike in Nigeria’s neighbours.
