ICC Note: In light of continued conflict in the Darfur region in Sudan, Chadian President Idris Deby met with the remaining rebel leaders in Paris to create a dialogue towards maintaining peace in the region. Three factions continue to fight the Sudanese government and call for the removal of the newly settled population. The Darfur region of Sudan has been plagued by conflict, dispute, and genocide for parts of 2 decades. Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir remains wanted by the International Criminal Court for genocide related to the Darfur conflict. Bashir is responsible for war crimes and atrocities committed against the black population in Darfur and has also targeted Christian population in the South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions

10/05/2015 Paris (All Africa) — The President of Chad held talks with leaders of the three holdout Darfur rebel movements in the French capital on Saturday evening.

In a joint statement after the meeting, Dr Jibril Ibrahim, head of the Justice and Equality Movement, Abdelwahid El Nur and Minni Minawi, leaders of the two Sudan Liberation Movement factions, said that President Idris Deby urged them to seize the opportunity to participate in the National Dialogue, proposed by President Al Bashir early last year.
