ICC Note: Nigeria’s 55th independence day was rocked by another attack from the notorious Islamic radical group Boko Haram. 11 villagers were killed in the early morning hours of October 2. Militants entered the villages of Bitiku, Kubu, and Kirchinga of Madagali located in Adamawa state, destroying homes and buildings throughout their rampage. The villagers were unaware of Boko Haram’s entrance into their villages as local vigilantes were not prepared. The attacks come at a time where the Nigerian Military has been quoted as saying major progress has been made in stopping the Islamist groups advance in the surrounding regions. Boko Haram is notorious for targeting Christian communities through murder, kidnapping, and rape.
