A mob ransacked a Christian neighborhood in Lahore called Sanda last month (May 24) after news spread of a Christian that had allegedly committed blasphemy against Islam. This latest incident involving Pakistan’s notorious blasphemy laws is just another example of the widespread abuse of these laws. Unfortunately, it is also an example of the communal violence the blasphemy laws have become synonymous with when a Christian is the accused.
Following the incident, ICC staff investigated the damage done to Christian homes and places of worship in Sanda. ICC was able to meet with victims, police, and local human rights activists to get a clear picture for the latest attack on Christians in Pakistan.
