ICC Note: For the second straight day, a female suicide bomber has struck northern Nigeria, killing ten and injuring 20 in Gujba, Yobe state. Witnesses said the bomber was a 12-year-old girl. Yesterday, two female suicide bombers attacked Maiduguri, killing 20 people. While Boko Haram has not commented publicly on the most recent assault, it bears the mark of common practice for the Islamist group. BH is notorious for kidnapping young girls, especially Christian girls younger than 15, brainwashing them and convincing them to blow themselves up. Observers continue to fear that some of the missing Chibok girls may have been used for this terrifying purpose.

6/24/15 Gujba, Nigeria (BBC) – A young female suicide bomber is reported to have killed at least 10 people in north-eastern Nigeria.

A witness said the girl, who detonated explosives in the town of Gujba in Yobe state, was about 12 years old. Another 20 people were injured in the blast.

Earlier this year, the Nigerian army seized Gujba from the militant group Boko Haram.

The Islamist group has not commented on the attack but it is known for carrying out such bombings.

Some 18,000 people have been killed in Nigeria since the group began a campaign of violence in 2009.
