ICC News: 60 million people are currently refugees worldwide. This number includes hundreds of thousands of Christians from sub-Saharan Africa either fleeing persecution in places such as Eritrea, or passing through areas where they will face persecution such as Libya. The quest through Libya for all migrants is a tumultuous one, marked by threat of drowning, imprisonment, harsh treatment, and abuse. But Christians crossing through the country experience the roughest journey, where they are targeted for their faith, murdered, raped, and discriminated against.

6/20/15 Libya (VICE News) – As Libya descends further into civil war and lawlessness, migrants from Africa and the Middle East continue to journey to the country’s coast in search of smugglers to take them across the Mediterranean Sea and into Europe.

Search and rescue operations by Libya’s coast guard are restricted due to diminishing resources, and have to contend with dangerous gangs of armed traffickers.
