ISIS has driven more than 3 million people from their homes. The heartland of Iraq’s Christian community has been completely devastated. Desperate just to be able to survive, family by family Iraq’s Christian community is streaming out of the country.
To stop the exodus, and to give new life, ICC and its partners in Iraq are helping some of these families to start over. A small grant to start a business was all the incentive and opportunity that Sikot needed. She received the grant for a sewing machine and the other tools to start a dressmaking shop and now they are producing multiple dresses a day and selling them throughout their new home.
Not only are these women creating dresses from scratch, and a business from scratch, but they’re starting a life from scratch. They are all displaced from another part of Iraq because of war and violence. Like so many others, the life they lived before has been destroyed, and they have to stitch together something new.
